Job Description

The video production manager is the Brand Strategy and Management team's secret weapon when it comes to wrangling the pre-and-post production details that video storytelling entails. If you have the organizational skills of Marie Kondo and the laser-like precision of an air traffic controller, we need you to directly support the Hub's video/motion picture team of talented filmmakers, writers and artists by providing project management support, managing digital assets, coordinating complex schedules, facilitating communication across teams, and publishing content on YouTube.

The typical day-to-day focus of the video production manager will be facilitating work groups and providing project management support. You are a skilled communicator who can actively listen, feels confident asking questions to identify potential gaps and creates documentation and workbooks that outline things such as project deliverables, status reports, timelines and priorities while complying with the ASU brand and marketing guide in order to deliver "best-in-class" video projects. The manager will translate complex business requirements into actionable deliverables that can be understood by technical and non-technical team members.

The candidate should be a respectful communicator and a flexible and adaptable team player who is detail-oriented and thrives when working in a fast-paced and constantly changing deadline-driven environment.

This position reports to the Sr. Creative Director.

Salary Range: $51,510 - $70,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

Project Management

Coordinates multiple video projects simultaneously by utilizing a project management system (Wrike) and maintaining implementation plans. Responsibility entails building out project tasks, workflow, and timelines in Wrike and coordinating shared documentation that includes logistics, location specifications and permitting and scheduling details; building workbooks for small and large projects.
Facilitates proactive communication among the team to ensure project tasks are clear, milestones are met and projects are approved by appropriate stakeholders and projects are delivered accurately on budget and on schedule.
Tracks production budgets
Assist/coordinate building bids (pre-working budgets) for projects with director
Discusses unit priorities with the team and works with the Sr. Director of Creative to make assignments and balance the workload.
Leads video team check-ins in which priorities, deadlines and assignments are discussed and aligned with team capacity
Works closely with the creative implementation team to optimize workflow for video creative and align use of Wrike.

Digital Asset Management

Maintains archival plan for team through drop box organization, can evaluate and solve for storage issues as they arise
Builds, updates and maintains a b-roll library of enterprise university footage
Assists in music licensing, applies a basic understanding of music rights management, sync licenses and payments
Packaging files for distribution and publication on YouTube, including ensuring closed captioning, descriptions, tagging and thumbnails are complete.
Works with teams across the university to efficiently share video files and collaborate on projects as necessary


Coordinates studio reservations and access
Assists with live event scheduling and requests
Assist with securing locations for filming, location scouting and permits when needed
Leads scheduling for on-camera interviews, b-roll shoots and annual projects, such as Outstanding Grad and Founders Day videos
Coordinates intern and student worker schedules and assignments


Responding to or routing general inquiry emails regarding video
Coordinate video resources for units on projects the Brand Strategy and Management team declines (warm transfers)
A skilled communicator who demonstrates active listening, strong inquiry skills and clear and concise writing skills.
Strong team building and facilitation skills.
Demonstrates a high-level of attention to detail and accuracy in their daily work.

Content Publishing

Publishes video content to YouTube and maintains documentation of our publishing process and standards
Monitoring and reporting performance of our YouTube videos and overall channel.
Convenes and facilitates a regularly occurring meeting of enterprise YouTube publishers
Maintains publishing calendar and cadence for all serial video content
Establishes and documents guidelines, KPIs and best practices for YouTube publishing

Equipment Management

Oversees and updates video team's equipment inventory and new equipment requests.

Relationship Management

Builds new and strong working relationships within the Brand Strategy and Management and the ASU marketing community at large.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience; 1 of which are in project management, or any equivalent combination of experience and /or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working with video project planning and coordination. Should be familiar with standard project management methodologies and tools common in the marketing and or video production industry.
Demonstrated knowledge of technical specifications, such as frame rate, aspect ratios and video codecs
Experience organizing and scheduling complex video shoots. Experience with an agency or production company preferred.
Experience working with digital assets including packaging and trafficking assets for distribution, maintaining digital files and archive systems, and maintaining required documentation on releases and licensing.
Demonstrated knowledge creating and maintaining complex schedules.
Evidence of productive communication and team building skills. Ability to convey clear, accurate and concise information regarding complex projects with a service-centric tone.
Experience managing YouTube channels, including knowledge of best-practices for creating and managing content in that channel.
Experience working with Google products (Drive, Docs, Sheets and slides), digital asset management software, project management software (Wrike), Outlook and slack required; working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Premier Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop, Illustrator) preferred
Evidence of service orientation, a disciplined work ethic and ability to instill a high standard of excellence to the overall team.
Experience working in a fast-paced, creative environment and coordinating multiple projects at once.
Experience providing administrative or project support.

Working Environment

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
Some projects may require alternative schedules including working evenings and weekends.
Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds.
Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see and hear to perform essential duties.
May include exposure to external environment/climate conditions including walking on uneven surfaces, climbing and high temperatures.
Essential duties may also require location work which may occur in adverse weather conditions.
Locations may be interior/exterior in perhaps rugged conditions.
Fragile electronic equipment must be transported both manually and with the assistance of portage devices.
Operation of video and photographic equipment may be handheld for extended periods.
Some equipment, such as lighting and cabling, can be dangerous during operation and setup.
