      Job Summary

      This position is scheduled to begin August 2023. The Mesa Community College Social Work Program is the number one contributor of quality social work students to schools of social work in the State of Arizona. The purpose of the social work faculty position is to support the MCC Social Work Program and its director by teaching foundational social work courses to a diverse population of students toward the attainment of an AA Emphasis in Social Work degree and assist in transfer to a BSW program. The social work faculty position will:
      • Teach a minimum of five SWU classes a semester
      • Develop and facilitate quality service learning experiences
      • Support social work activities, clubs and field trips
      • Develop and expand student opportunities to acquire the knowledge, skills and habits of mind needed to enhance learning and thus create exceptional social workers

        Essential Functions
        • Instructs a diverse population of students in classroom and service learning settings
        • Uses traditional and nontraditional methods for instruction, including the use of technology to engage students and enhance learning and success
        • Develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; assesses student knowledge of subject matter and prepares and grades exams
        • Maintains in-person, on-campus academic support hours to assist and advise students
        • Engages in the academic life of the college by participating in departmental, campus, district committees and community activities
        • Develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in the field and to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning through attendance at conferences, professional development courses, seminars, and/or workshops
        • Collaborates with team members to address student needs, develop interdisciplinary instruction including cross training

          Minimum Qualifications

          The Academic Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university:

          1. A master's degree or higher in the teaching field, or a master's degree or higher in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field. A master's degree (or higher) in any of the following areas is within the teaching field*:
          • Masters degree in Social Work (MSW)
          • Masters degree in Science of Social Administration (MSSA)
            2. EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College -- or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire

            *Minimum qualifications updated on 12/27/22.

            Desired Qualifications
          • Independent licensure, LCSW
          • Five (5) years post graduate school experience in the field of social work
          • Field Instructor experience of social work students with service learning/internships
          • Field Liaison experience, working with social service agencies in the community
          • Teaching experience with face-to-face, online and hybrid learning management systems, Canvas preferred
          • Lived experience or experiential knowledge of diverse, marginalized and vulnerable populations
          • Qualified to teach Mindfulness for Stress Management

            Special Working Conditions
