Job Summary
Scottsdale Community College is hiring a Savory & Hot Foods
Culinary Residential Faculty to join the Applied Science Division
as a member of the Culinary Arts Team. This position instructs
culinary arts students with an emphasis on the theory and practice
of casual dining room operations. Culinary lecture/laboratory
instruction includes the operation of the public dining facilities.
Responsibilities include student recruitment, advisement,
curriculum development, menu planning, sanitation, kitchen and
dining room organization and management, facilities maintenance,
and organization. This position is also responsible for the
advancement of the program through occasional outside functions,
committees, and industry organizations.
To best serve the students, department, and college, this position
requires a physical presence on campus, with the possibility of
partial remote work depending on business needs.
This position is scheduled to start August 2024.

Essential Functions
* Instruction: Supervises and instructs students of various ages
and diverse backgrounds in advanced hot foods application in
classroom, online, and/or lab settings. Instructing students in
Culinary Arts courses, with an emphasis on developing the students'
critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This includes
utilizing various teaching methods to promote effective learning in
students with diverse abilities, levels of academic preparation,
ages, and socio-economic/cultural backgrounds.
* Course Development: Designs and develops written syllabi/course
outlines, curricula, and instructional materials. This includes
evaluating students' comprehension of the subject matter being
taught by making and grading assignments, projects, quizzes, and
exams. Develops menus, methods, and course materials to assess
student knowledge and retention of subject matter.
* Student Advisement: Maintains office hours to assist and advise
students; participates in department, campus, and district-wide
committees. Holding academic support hours for students, with the
purpose of answering questions that students may have over the
subject matters being taught and/or providing academic advisement
to students planning to major in a Culinary Arts discipline.
* Committees: Attends and participates in program, division and
college functions and committees as required for program
advancement. Contributes to college governance by serving on
college and/or district committees. This also includes
collaborating with the Culinary Arts Instructional Council faculty
in developing course and program curriculum; contributing to the
Culinary Arts department's program reviews and improvement
initiatives; building and maintaining collaborative external
partnerships.
* Professional Growth: Engages in professional growth opportunities
to enhance subject knowledge and develop pedagogical skills.
Culinary Arts faculty members are expected to model the
profession's high standards through their commitment to excellence,
innovation, integrity, and teamwork. Thus, it is necessary for all
Culinary Arts faculty within the department to work together and
keep their knowledge up to date to assure the students within the
program are learning the newest skills expected of Culinary Arts
graduates. Professional growth opportunities may be external, such
as attending national or regional conferences, or internal, such as
attending college or department training sessions.
* Resources: Assists the division chair/director in deciding the
best use of the department's funds and other resources to support
the incorporation of technology into an integrated lecture/lab
setting. This includes working with student workers and lab
technicians to provide them with guidance in the setup of equipment
in the classrooms and the maintenance of tools in the Culinary Arts
workroom.
* Student Success: Leading the departmental efforts to build and
maintain the Culinary Arts program at SCC. This requires a
commitment to student success and working together with other SCC
employees on student recruitment initiatives and community outreach
efforts. This includes advising Culinary Arts students;
facilitating partnerships with in-state universities for transfer
programs and grants; assisting students with other private or
out-of-state universities' transfer programs requirements;
participating in outreach activities to middle schools, high
schools, and other Culinary Arts programs; creating and maintaining
partnerships with Culinary Arts industry; facilitating and creating
possible internship opportunities for students; and/or participates
in program activities for current and potential students to include
visits to educational and industry sites and off-site student
related venues.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Five (5) years of occupational experience in the following
field: Culinary Arts, Food and Nutrition, Hotel & Restaurant
Management, Business Administration/Management, Culinary Science or
equivalent.
OR Three (3) years of occupational experience in the following
fields as well as a Bachelor's degree in any field: Culinary Arts,
Food and Nutrition, Hotel & Restaurant Management, Business
Administration/Management, Culinary Science or equivalent.
OR Master's degree in any field with a combination of 24 upper
division and/or graduate credits in the following fields or
courses: Hotel Management, Restaurant Management, Culinary Studies,
Commercial Food Service, Institutional Food Service
And in these areas: HRM, CUL
