The Boeing Company is looking for a Senior Autonomy Standards
Software Engineer to join our team in Berkeley, MO or Mesa, AZ.
This position supports the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS)
business organization by developing software for autonomous
aircraft. Phantom Works develops complex, highly integrated,
advanced systems, enabling future growth for Boeing and our
customers. We need an innovative engineer like you to help shape
the future of military aviation by developing and integrating next
generation autonomy software capabilities as part of a very
exciting and critically important new aircraft development effort
(specific details of this program cannot be disclosed in this
forum).
The Software Engineer will work with a large multifaceted
engineering team to design, develop, simulate, and deploy mission
critical software for autonomous aircraft. The software is written
in C++ with an emphasis on open architectures. It includes
development of software and software tests throughout all phases of
the software development life-cycle (requirements, architecture,
implementation, and verification). Development will occur in a
Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) software
build pipeline using an agile methodology focused on code quality,
security, and automation.
As a Boeing Consortium representative in Phantom Works, you will
perform software design and development for the reference
implementation of a consortium defined software system. You will
work with government and other industry participants to reach a
consensus and define a software architecture and surrounding
ecosystem. You will lead a team in a casual but professional
environment where there is long-term potential for career growth
into management or technical leadership positions. The optimal
candidate works well with a team, has great communication skills,
and is a self-starter excited to support the development of
autonomous systems. Partnering with both internal and external
organizations, our team provides the technical leadership to
develop key enabling technologies, grow our autonomy software
portfolio, and execute live demonstrations in support of critical
future defense franchises in autonomy, air vehicle operations,
surveillance, aerial refueling, collaborative teaming and other
vital missions autonomous systems.
Occasional travel may be required but would be less than 10%.
Position Responsibilities:
Represent Boeing and advocate for Boeing needs within the
consortium
Utilize strong soft skills related to consensus-building,
communication, conflict resolution, and active listening
Develop solutions using C++
Leverage Open Mission Systems (OMS) standards to create modular
software services
Assist with the design and development of autonomous systems using
real-time software architectures
Participate in use case development for software requirements
Support software architecture trade studies and modifications to
meet new requirements
Make modifications to SW code and integrate new SW components to
meet new requirements
Develop interface definitions
Build, run and maintain test suites
Develop software verification plans, test procedures and test
environments, perform unit and integration testing and document
test results to ensure software system requirements are met
Coordinate with team members to help ensure first time quality in
our tools and software services
Participate in peer reviews
Create and maintain software documentation
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate
will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed
location options. This is at the hiring team's discretion and could
potentially change in the future.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security
Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is
required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in
engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing
engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data
science, or computer science.
7 or more years of experience with C++ design, coding and test
5 or more years of experience in leading software development and
sustainment activities
Experience with Linux
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Highest level U.S. security clearance you currently hold or have
held in the past 24 months
2 or more years of experience in developing or integrating Mission
Systems for military aircraft
2 or more years of engineering experience with aircraft, missile,
spacecraft, autonomous platform or similar vehicles
Experience using Analytical Framework for Net Enabled Systems
(AFNES)/Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration & Modeling
(AFSIM), Brawler, or other simulation tools or computer
programming
Real time software development experience
Experience with Containerization Techniques
Experience with Agile Software development process
Experience with containerized software and deployment
3+ years of professional experience with CMake or equivalent build
automation systems
Experience with Open Mission System (OMS) standards
Domain knowledge of aerospace mission systems software
development
Experience with using Continuous Integration pipelines using
Jenkins, Gitlab CI, the JFrog stack, or equivalent tools
Experience with cloud computing environments such as AWS, Azure, or
GCP
Experience with GovCloud variants of commercial cloud
environments
Candidate should have strong computing skills, excellent written
and speech communication skills, be customer-oriented, positive,
flexible, and a strong team player
Experience developing or maintaining a software development kit
(SDK)
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical
education from an accredited course of study in engineering,
computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor)
and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an
equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g.
PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work
experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred,
although not required, accreditation standard.
