Tenured Associate or Full Professor in Innovation Policy - Arizona State Posted: November 18, 2019 Job #15199 Arizona State University's School for the Future of Innovation in Society (SFIS) seeks an associate or full professor (tenured) with expertise in innovation policy broadly construed, including innovation for local and regional economic development, and innovation for economic and social inclusion. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate intellectual and innovative leadership that cuts across multiple areas of knowledge, expertise and practice, potentially including design, the arts and humanities, and science and engineering. Primary expertise may be in any sector. Candidates should be adept at working within diverse communities to translate knowledge into impact. The successful candidate will be expected to bring sophisticated methods and tools together with a demonstrated scholarly commitment to addressing societal challenges within the context of science, technology, and innovation. They will also be expected to demonstrate leadership in working with both academic and non-academic communities in designing, implementing and growing novel approaches to public interest-oriented innovation, from the local to the global level. ASU and SFIS are committed to strengthening innovation in Arizona and beyond through engaged scholarship and informed and responsive policy. The Phoenix metro area is rapidly emerging as a leading center for innovation practices, and both SFIS and the university are participating in local, cutting-edge innovation initiatives. Such initiatives provide a unique environment within which the successful candidate will be able to collaborate and lead novel innovation policy partnerships with local, national and global impact. We specifically expect that the successful candidate will develop and lead a new research center that is focused on creative approaches to innovation policy, and leveraging the unique opportunities afforded by ASU and the surrounding area. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independently funded and collaborative research program; teach and mentor students; participate in professional and university service; engage stakeholders, and demonstrate national and international leadership in their field. In particular, the successful candidate will be expected to coordinate faculty within and outside SFIS to advance a new center and assume a leadership role in the School's participation in university-wide initiatives, e.g., with the City of Mesa. The possibility exists of a shared appointment (75/25) between SFIS and another academic unit (e.g., the School of Design, the School of Public Affairs, the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, the W.P. Carey School of Business, or the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering). Required: PhD or doctoral equivalent in political science, sociology, economics, geography, urban or regional studies, or other appropriate field. Experience in applying for, receiving, and managing externally sponsored research at significant scale. Experience engaging with stakeholders inside and outside the university and working with policy makers and businesses across local, regional, national and global scales. Skills in teaching and mentoring students and early career researchers. Desired: Experience collaborating with colleagues from different disciplines to grow dynamic research and academic programs.
