Summary

This position will support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19. This is a Direct Hire Open Continuous Announcement (OCA) for a permanent Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (CT) for the Radiology Department at the Whiteriver Service Unit (WRSU) in Whiteriver, Arizona.

Responsibilities

  • Performs quality control, daily required calibration, and records appropriate performance.
  • Reviews and evaluates developed x-rays or computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Operates and oversees operation of radiologic or magnetic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
  • Positions imaging equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance according to specification of examination.
  • Evaluates the exam order for appropriateness, prepares CT suite, and provides education and assessment to the patient.

Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. After you begin your employment, your continued employment is contingent upon the outcome of a complete background investigation as determined by the sensitivity level of your position. The investigation must find that you are suitable for Federal employment in your position. If you are found not suitable, you will be terminated after you begin work. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and its accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:

  • Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
  • Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications:

GS-8:

  • Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-7 in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and tasks: independently performing various types of routine and non-routine specialized radiological exams; uses radiation safety measures and protection devices in compliance with regulations; plans, directs, controls and evaluates the effectiveness of the medical imaging; performs daily required calibration and records appropriate performance to ensure quality control; evaluates the exam order and prepares the CT suits; provides education and assessment to the patient; prepares and administers the contrast medium; documents the procedure; treatment, dose and patient information; retrieves labs values from RPMS, assess BUN and Creatinine levels; and reviews image quality, optimally the anatomic region, archives and sends the exam for interpretation.

GS-9:

  • Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-8 in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and tasks: independently performing a full range of advanced computerized tomography examines involving special and complicated procedures; receives and reviews requests from physicians and other health care providers for CT examinations of patients and determines the condition(s) and proper procedure and equipment in accordance with required protocol for the type and level of imaging requested. OR
  • Two full years of graduate education leading to a Master's degree or a Master's degree with courses in radiography or other related radiographic studies attained from an accredited college, university, or medical school. OR
  • A combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above.

GS-10:

  • Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and tasks: independently performing a full range of advanced computerized tomography examinations involving special and complicated procedures. Full responsibility and performance of a variety of specialized diagnostic and treatment procedures and technical aspects of the specialization; involves diverse and complex technical problems, instructing in the operation of equipment; adapt the instrument to the patient and/or select procedures based on patient's physical condition; and respond to emergencies and make recommendations to physicians based on observation of patient's response. OR
  • Two full years of graduate education leading to a Master's degree or a Master's degree with courses in radiography or other related radiographic studies attained from an accredited college, university, or medical school. OR
  • A combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described above.

Licensure: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT), (R), and/or (CT).
