The Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division's Satellite Operations and Ground Systems (SOGS) organization is seeking an Experienced Satellite Ground Systems Engineer (Level 3) to provide leadership in the development of our nation's next generation of satellite ground systems in Mesa, AZ, Leesburg, VA, Seal Beach, CA or El Segundo, CA. For all systems engineers who enjoy being leaders, offering the opportunity to provide overall direction for major sections of our software development staff and programs, this role is for you! We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

Position Overview:

The Experienced Satellite Ground Systems Engineer will support an impactful team that are immersed in innovative development projects . As an Experienced Satellite Ground Systems Engineer you will establish and maintain customer relationships as well as partnerships with collaborators, peers, and partners. This role will assist with shaping the future development of innovative technology in an agile environment with multiple long term projects needing support. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to support the entire Ground Systems and Operations (GS&O) division of over 1,000 engineers. This role will work with other ground program systems engineers to develop common tools and create a library of ground segment products. This position also supports the ground division business unit efforts outside the program including but not limited to new business strategy, market assessments, IRD investment planning, COTS products, re-use of other Boeing ground products, and proposal activities

The program is using Models Based System Engineering (MBSE) for requirements definition and design. Satellite and Ground Segment requirements and design is performed through Use Cases, Context Diagrams, and Activity Diagrams. Boeing design standards and processes assure traceability, complete end to end system verification, day in the life system validation, configuration management and change control. We develop and deliver first time quality systems that are operable and maintainable.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify basic lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Performs analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.
  • Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Supports the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Develop Ground Segment Operational Products in support of Space based systems.
  • System Integration & Test.
  • Ops Product design, development, and test.
  • Support complex system level threads required to run missions in space. Work Authorization:

    This position requires the ability to obtain an active/current U.S. Top Security Clearance with a Tier 5 Investigation (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) that has been successfully completed by the federal government within the last 5 years or in a Continuous Evaluation/Continuous Vetting program for the T5/SSBI. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

    Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
    • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.
    • 3 years or more of experience in software systems engineering.
    • 3 years or more of experience in all aspects of requirements management including requirements definition, traceability, testing, qualification and customer acceptance.
    • 3 years or more of experience working with customers and users/operators to define functional and performance requirements, software interfaces, use cases and user stories. Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
      • 5 years or more of experience with satellite ground systems and the satellite operations problem space.
      • 5 years or more experience with Model Based Engineering through-out the development lifecycle.
      • 5 years or more experience collaborating with developers using agile development tools and practices.
      • 5 years or more experience with Atlassian, Jira and Confluence. Typical Education / Experience:

        Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

        California summary pay range: Min: $104,550 - Max: $141,450

        Arizona summary pay range: Min: $97,750 - Max: $132,250

        Virginia summary pay range: Min: $104,550 - Max: $141,450

        Export Control Requirements: U.S. Government Export Control Status: This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
