      Job Summary

      The Student Services Specialist Senior coordinates and implements MCC's Early College Program(s) (ACE, Hoop of Learning, and Early College Academy) by providing operational planning, program management and evaluation, direct student service delivery, as well as problem-resolution, and technical assistance. The Student Services Specialist Senior supports the college's strategic enrollment initiatives by serving as the Early College Program(s) community liaison providing outreach services to high schools, community agencies, organizations, and business/industry sectors to promote the enrollment/retention of Early College Program students in Mesa Community College. The Student Services Specialist Senior will be responsible for the evaluation of criteria used for program eligibility, researching program activities and recommending enhancements, and developing and implementing co-curricular programming and events to support student development. As a representative of the institution, the Student Services Specialist Senior works closely with internal and external constituents and utilizes a broad base of knowledge of student services functions to support a diverse population of students (traditional, non-traditional, underrepresented groups, etc.) in understanding and navigating the enrollment processes at Mesa Community College.

      Essential Functions

      40%- Assists in the coordination of the Early College Program(s) including ACE, Hoop of Learning, and Early College Academy by providing student support; monitoring progress; academic planning/advising and orientation to enhance student success. Assists new and continuing students in all aspects of student services including recruitment, placement testing, academic planning, registration, fiscal functions, financial aid, orientation programming, and retention activities. Advises students regarding degree options, transfer options, academic success and financial planning; meets and corresponds with students and high school administrators to build and maintain the college's strategic partnerships. Tracks student progress through completion and designs appropriate interventions.

      30%- Assists with the coordination, implementation and evaluation of programs and services. Assists with implementation of program outreach as well as recruitment and retention activities. Designs, develops, maintains and delivers program resource information, presentations, reports, correspondence, and promotional materials. Collects, analyzes, and interprets data related to the Early College Program(s) to inform policies, practices, and/or procedures Reviews program requirements criteria to evaluate and determine eligibility.

      20%- Develops, analyzes, coordinates, and implements program functions and activities. Facilitates grant/scholarship funds for the Early College Program(s) students including the evaluation of grant qualifications in accordance with MCCCD policies, regulations, and state and federal laws. Evaluates policy to determine and ensure program compliance.

      10% - Assists in the planning and/or execution of other division and departmental programming. Performs other duties as assigned.

      Minimum Qualifications

      Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two full-time equivalent years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.


      High School Diploma/GED and four full-time equivalent years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

      Desired Qualifications

      A. Bachelor's degree in any field and/or experience providing customer service in an educational environment

      B. Experience in early outreach, early college and/or recruitment functions in higher education.

      C. Experience in effective advising of and providing support to high-need student populations.

      D. Knowledge of trends, characteristics, and issues facing diverse student populations as it relates to first-generation, low-income, underrepresented, and underprepared students within higher education.

      E. Experience using technology to support academic advising, student success, student learning, and/ or career advising.

      F. Bi-lingual in Spanish

      Special Working Conditions
      • Expected work schedule during the fall and spring semesters will be Mon-Thurs 8am-6pm; Friday 8am-5pm, Summer schedule will be Monday - Thursday, 7:00 am - 6:00 pm
      • May require some evenings and/or weekends
      • May require some local travel
      • May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
      • May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs.
