      Job Summary

      This position is scheduled to begin August 2023. Mesa Community College is seeking a faculty member with the ability to coordinate the piano area of study. Specifically, the successful candidate's primary role would be teaching several class piano courses for our music majors pursuing a degree in music, teaching piano pedagogy courses for our piano pedagogy program and teaching or coordinating our piano ensembles.

      Beyond that, the candidate would also be reponsible for coordinating the various adjunct piano teachers along with student private piano lessons and scheduling our piano recitals. Additional courses will be assigned from the music curriculum, possibly including a humanities course, a theory and/or an aural perception course. Active student recruitment, advisement and continued contribution to the excellence of the Music Program are essential and ongoing responsibilities. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to service excellence, innovation, student success, integiry, and diversity in the performance of job duties.

      Essential Functions

      Instructs students in a classroom setting, specifically group class piano settings for students that are both transferring to a university as well as community members seeking self-enrichment opportunities and possible other teaching areas in music, including directing ensembles; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and monitors student supercholastic records; develops and enhances knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with trends in the field through attendance of conferences, courses, seminars, and/or workshops;actively recruits and retains students for the Music Program; maintains academic support hours to assist and potentially advise students.

      Minimum Qualifications

      The Academic Teaching Fields require the following from an accredited college or university:

      1. A master's degree or higher in the teaching field, or a master's degree or higher in any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field*

      2. EDU 250 - Teaching and Learning in the Community College -- or equivalent must be completed within two years of date of hire

      *Minimum qualifications updated on 12/27/22.

      Desired Qualifications

      1. A master's degree or higher in the discipline of Piano Performance, Piano Pedagogy, or Collaborative Piano.

      2. Five (5) or more years of experience teaching music at the collegiate level.

      3. Five (5) or more years of experience teaching Class Piano.

      4. Three or more teaching piano pedagogy in a college setting

      4. Three (3) or more years of experience teaching literature for solo or chamber piano ensembles.

      5. Three (3) or more years of experience in the recruitment and retention of music students.

      6. Three (3) or more years of experience in music humanities lecture course instruction.
